What Are Neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators are wrinkle-relaxing injections made from botulinum toxin, commonly known by brand names such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, and Xeomin®. These treatments are used to smooth wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet by targeting muscle activity beneath the skin.

What Is the Difference Between BOTOX® and Dermal Fillers?

BOTOX® and dermal fillers serve different purposes in non-surgical aesthetic treatments. BOTOX® is a neuromodulator that temporarily reduces muscle contractions responsible for creating wrinkles, such as frown lines or crow’s feet. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, add volume to areas that may have thinned over time. Both treatments can be discussed during your consultation with our aesthetic specialists to determine which option is best for your individual needs.

How Does BOTOX® and Dysport® Work?

Facial lines can develop from a combination of factors, including cellular changes, collagen depletion, and environmental damage. However, repeated muscle contractions from everyday expressions like frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows can cause the skin to fold and form lines.

BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® work beneath the skin’s surface by temporarily reducing the muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles. This treatment leads to visibly smoother skin in both men and women.

Most patients experience a slight pinching sensation during the injections. Results typically begin to appear within 24 to 48 hours, with full effects visible in 30 days. The smoothing effects can last up to 5 months.

It’s important to note that BOTOX® Cosmetic is not permanent and will require follow-up treatments for continued results.

What Is the Difference Between BOTOX® and Dysport®?

While both BOTOX® and Dysport® are neuromodulators used to treat wrinkles, they differ slightly in their applications. Dysport® is primarily used for correcting glabellar lines (the frown lines between your eyebrows), making it a great choice for those with moderate to severe frown lines. BOTOX® is more versatile and can treat a variety of wrinkles, including crow’s feet, forehead lines, and laugh lines.

What Is Xeomin®?

Xeomin® is another anti-aging injection option, similar to BOTOX® and Dysport®. It is considered “lighter” because it contains fewer proteins than the other two. Xeomin® is used to treat the same areas, including glabellar lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet, providing a natural and refreshed appearance.

Which Neuromodulator Is Right for Me?

During your consultation, our expert aesthetic providers will evaluate your skin’s condition and discuss your desired results. They will recommend the best treatment plan based on factors such as your age, skin type, and the longevity of results you wish to achieve. Some patients may benefit from combining dermal fillers with neuromodulators for enhanced facial rejuvenation.
